๐ Bringing Hope to Kisumu
Medical Aid Alliance was honored to partner with the Kenya Association of Paediatric Surgeons (KAPS) for the Kisumu Paediatric Surgical Camp 2025 a three-day outreach event dedicated to providing free, life-saving surgeries for children in need.
Hosted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital, this initiative brought together paediatric surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses, and residents from across Kenya, all volunteering their expertise to ensure that no child is left behind due to limited access or financial barriers.
These collaborative surgical camps are a cornerstone in strengthening Kenyaโs capacity for specialized paediatric surgical care, particularly in underserved regions.
Day 1 โ Hope Begins
The camp officially opened on 29th September, marking the beginning of three transformative days.
Volunteer teams from KAPS and Medical Aid Alliance joined forces to assess, prepare, and operate on children suffering from a range of correctable surgical conditions.
From the first consultation to the final recovery check, every step reflected compassion, teamwork, and commitment to saving lives and restoring hope.
โThese camps remind us why collaboration in healthcare matters together, we make the impossible possible for children who deserve a healthy start in life.โ

๐ฅ Day 2 โ Surgeries in Progress
By the second day, multiple theatres were fully active. Surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and theatre nurses worked side by side, performing complex yet essential paediatric procedures all free of charge.
Behind every successful surgery was a story of resilience: a child gaining a second chance at life, and a family rediscovering hope.
Medical Aid Alliance provided logistical and technical support throughout the camp, ensuring smooth coordination and safe post-operative care.
Together, we are building healthier futures one surgery at a time. โจ

๐ฅ Day 3 โ Reflections and Impact
On the final day, Dr. Faith Bob, a long-standing KAPS member, shared a heartfelt message highlighting the impact of these camps over the years. She presented inspiring statistics showing how consistent outreach and partnerships have changed hundreds of young lives across Kenya.
Dr. Francis Osawa, Chairman of KAPS, also reflected on the significance of teamwork, noting that with over 60 healthcare professionals participating, the Kisumu camp stands as one of the most successful outreach efforts to date.
โThis is what partnership looks like specialists, organizations, and communities uniting to make surgery accessible to every child, regardless of background.โ

๐ฉบ A Call for Continued Collaboration
The camp concluded with a message from Dr. Lessan, Senior Director of Clinical Services at Kenyatta National Hospital. He emphasized that surgical conditions remain a major but often overlooked contributor to child mortality in low-resource settings and that continued collaboration between institutions like KAPS and Medical Aid Alliance is key to changing that reality.
He reaffirmed the shared goal: to train local teams, strengthen hospital capacity, and advocate for every childโs right to safe, quality surgical care regardless of where they live or their familyโs income.
โThis mission goes beyond surgeries itโs about building systems that last, saving lives, and securing a healthier future for generations to come.โ
